Jackie Bird Journalist, Broadcaster & Writer

Jackie Bird is one of Scotland’s best known and most experienced broadcast journalists. She presented the BBC’s flagship nightly news, Reporting Scotland, for thirty years, reporting from Helmand to Hollywood; Washington to Wimbledon. As a broadcasting all-rounder she’s been the presenter for key events - from election night to Hogmanay. In 2020 she launched the Scotland’s People Awards which is now a mainstay of BBC festive viewing. She’s also the face of Scotland’s Children in Need. Jackie writes and produces documentaries on TV and on radio including specialist music programmes, and having begun her career in print journalism she is still a newspaper and magazine columnist. Jackie is President of the National Trust for Scotland and is the host of the Trust’s award-winning Love Scotland podcasts. Comedy is another love and Jackie has written and produced a sit-com series and sketch shows. She also wrote and produced an acclaimed series on the history of the Scottish suffragette movement. Jackie’s versatility and engaging presentation style mean she’s in regular demand for corporate work, hosting events from blue chip company conferences to the Special Olympics.
